Power to School: helping schools become eco-responsible

In August 2017, the first photovoltaic installation was carried out as part of the Power to School program.

370 photovoltaic panels, with a capacity of 99 kWp, were installed on the roof of a school in Uccle. The installation will generate a savings of around 13 kg of CO2 per year. This investment is entirely supported by EDF Luminus. It will enable the school to save around 8,000€ on its yearly energy bill.

This project, the result of a partnership between Luminus and Goodplanet, is targeted at schools in Brussels and Wallonia.

Luminus has responsibility for the feasibility study, the design, the installation, the implementation and the maintenance of the photovoltaic installation. This is entirely financed by Luminus, which receives green certificates and a possible rent over 10 years to cover the investment. The school benefits from a reduced energy bill, thanks to the solar panels.

For its side, Goodplanet offers an educational program to increase the awareness of the pupils on the topic of energy and the problem of climate change. This not-for-pofit organization is a true player in changing energy usage behaviours. It will carry out an audit and take specific actions to encourage everyone in the school to use energy more responsibly.
